Hey guys! This is my last pregnancy update since I was actually induced this today!! Here’s what happened during my 39th week…

How far along: 39 weeks 5 days

Baby’s Size: Around 7.25 lbs and 20 inches from head to toe.

Weight Gained: 26 lbs total

Stretch Marks: None!! I was lucky again this pregnancy!

Symptoms: Same as last week. Some swelling at night, lots of back pain and Braxton hicks (“practice”) contractions.

Food Cravings: Milkshakes, fruit, bread with olive oil and salads.

Food Aversions: Nothing really, just some nausea at night.

Movement: YES, lots.

Gender: No clue, not knowing until we deliver. Soooo excited to find out!!

Maternity Clothes: Nothing new. I’ve been living in a couple of maternity jeans, maxi dresses (non maternity and maternity) and some maternity shorts. I’ll be happy to wear some of my old clothes soon!

Exercise: Still exercising, but noticing its getting more difficult by the day. This week I basically just walked!

Belly Button in or out: Out.

Wedding rings: On, but taking them off at night since my fingers get a little swollen.

Next prenatal appointment: Induction day today!

I’ll be back with a birth story in a couple of days!!!

Week 37 update

Hey guys! Long time no talk… It’s been a while since I’ve written on the blog and I sure have missed it. I’ve been so busy and tired lately between the restaurant (which is going great by the way) and the pregnancy. I just feel I have a lot on my plate right now.

How far along: 37 weeks 4 days (only 17 days until my due date, although we have a tentative induction for April 8th)

Baby’s Size: Around 6.3 lbs (about the size of a coconut) and 19 inches from head to toe.

Weight Gained: About 24 lbs

Stretch Marks: None, I’m just trying to rub lotion on my belly as much as I can.

Symptoms: Some swelling at night, lots of back pain and Braxton hicks (“practice”) contractions.

Food Cravings: Fruit, frappuccinos, ice cream- everything cold!

Food Aversions: Nothing really

Movement: YES, lots. Baby’s kicks are strong and I love it. I especially love how it moves right after I eat something sweet. The baby also gets hiccups about once or twice a day.

Gender: No clue, not knowing until we deliver.

Maternity Clothes: Nothing new. I’ve been living in a couple of maternity jeans, maxi dresses (non maternity and maternity) and some maternity shorts.

Exercise: Still exercising, but noticing its getting more difficult by the day. I try to fit in 5 workouts a week, anywhere from 45 to 60 minutes long. Lately, I’ve been doing a combination of cardio and light weight training.

I’m sad to say that about a week ago running has stopped completely because it’s just not enjoyable anymore. I’ve been missing it a lot, but I know I’m going to love the moment I get back out there with no belly and a lot less weight! My cardio sessions now include power walking, the stationary bike, the elliptical and my new favorite: the rowing machine. I’m hoping I can stay active until the very end!

Belly Button in or out: Out.

Wedding rings: On, but taking them off at night since my fingers get a little swollen.

Nursery: The nursery is about 90% ready! It’s simple, but I love it. The theme is farm which is gender neutral since we don’t want to find out the sex until after the baby is born. I’ll share some pictures next week!

Next prenatal appointment: March 27th

A couple of belly pics:

Hope you have a great week!

Week 23/24 bumpdate

Hey guys, it’s time for another pregnancy update. I haven’t posted since week 19 so we have a lot of catching up to do.

How far along: 23 weeks 5 days

Baby’s Size: A large mango (over 1 lb and more than 11 inches long)

Weight Gained: A total of 15.5 lbs

Stretch Marks: None, I’ve been rubbing lotion on my belly daily. I didn’t get any with Maia, so I hope I’m that lucky this time around.

Symptoms: Lower back pain, especially after I run.

Food Cravings: Nothing in particular, but I have a huge appetite lately (especially from 2 to 5 pm, weird I know!)

Food Aversions: Nothing really

Movement: Some kicks and flutters, especially at night when I’m just lying in bed. I don’t usually feel anything during the day because I’m so busy.

Gender: No clue. We still have the idea of not finding out until the birth.

Maternity Clothes: Nothing new and still wearing the same 3 pants I have and a couple of tank tops from Old Navy. The rest of my tops are non-maternity.

Exercise: Still running! I’m so happy I’m 23.5 weeks and I’m still running. I recently “joined” Runners World’s holiday running streak from Thanksgiving to New Years day and I’m proud to say I’m still going strong. I’ve run for the past 20 days, even if it’s only been for a mile. I’ve been counting my miles and I’m averaging about 4 miles a day. Last week I ran 30.5 miles!

I ran Nike’s 10k 10 days ago and I did great. I didn’t really have a time in mind because it was the first race since my half-marathon at 9 weeks pregnant, but I finished in 47:05 min!! I was pleasantly surprised. Because summer is starting in Peru there really aren’t many races in summer because of the heat, I don’t think I’ll be running another race while pregnant. The baby’s due at the end of March (it’s a planned C-Section), so I’ll be giving birth right when summer is ending.

20131219-192036.jpg

Belly Button in or out: In, but flattening out.

Wedding rings: On, but sometimes they get snug when it’s hot.

Next prenatal appointment: January 7th

I’m feeling great and sometimes I even forget that I’m pregnant since I basically do everything I did pre-pregnancy (except for the drinking and going to bed past 11 pm). The only thing that keeps reminding me I’m pregnant is not fitting into my regular jeans! My belly is getting bigger, but it’s not in the way yet.

Here are a couple of pictures of this week:

20131219-192321.jpg

20131219-205843.jpg

We’re off to Colombia Saturday morning until January 5th. We’ll be spending the holidays with Roberto’s side of the family and I couldn’t be more excited. Sure I’ll be missing my family lots, but it’s always nice to go to Bogota. Hope you have a great time during the holidays with your loved ones!

Week 19: Feeling great

Hey guys! Long time, no talk. I’m sorry blogging has taken a back seat, but the past few weeks I’ve been so busy because of my restaurant and I just haven’t had the time or the energy. I’m so excited and can’t believe the restaurant (its name is Quinoa, by the way) opened last Monday!

My last pregnancy update was almost 6 weeks ago, so here’s this week’s:

How far along: 19 weeks (well, technically 19 weeks tomorrow)

20131115-114851.jpg

20131115-115002.jpg

Baby’s Size: Heirloom Tomato (6 inches long from head to bottom and about 250g)

Weight Gained: A total of 13 lbs according to my home scale. I’ll let you know what my doctor’s scale says at my next appt.

Stretch Marks: None, I’ve been rubbing lotion on my belly daily.

Symptoms: I can’t think of any… I feel great

Food Cravings: Fruit, Salads, Ice Cream and Mexican (I went to Chipotle last week in Miami- AMAZING!)

Food Aversions: Nothing in particular

Movement: None yet. I thought I would feel something by now since it’s not my first pregnancy, but it hasn’t happened.

Gender: No idea and we’re not going to find out

Maternity Clothes: I bought a couple of maternity tops from Old Navy and 2 pairs of skinny pants from Motherhood Maternity- all on sale!

Belly Button in or out: In, but flattening out

Wedding rings: On

Next prenatal appointment: December 5th

I’m really surprised how good I’ve felt so far this pregnancy. I’ve barely had nausea, I’ve only thrown up a couple of times and I’m still running pain-free. I’ve been averaging about 25-mile weeks (pre- pregnancy I would run 40-45 mile weeks) and I feel pretty good doing almost everything.

Here’s what my workouts have looked like this week:

Mon: 4 miles 36 min and XT 20 min
Tues: 6.5 miles, 58 min
Wed: Rest
Thurs: 6 miles, 53 min and abs
Fri: 5 miles, 43 min and some arm weights

I hope I can keep up with running as much as I can since it keeps me happy and sane, but I know not to push my body and I’ll stop when I feel the need to. I’ve noticed my pace is a little slower than pre-preg (I’m averaging 8:45 min/mi), but I’m Ok with that and I’m just happy I can run.

Hope you have a great weekend!

Week 13: Cancun trip

Hey guys! I’m back for another pregnancy update after 2 weeks of going missing on the blog! I’ve been busy with the restaurant and I just got back from a trip to Cancun with my friends! It was so much fun, but I have to admit I was a little body conscious since I was in a bikini all day. I can’t believe I’m officially in the 2nd trimester, time flies!

Here’s a picture a friend took today. I can definetely spot a bump now!

Week 13 details

How far along: 13 weeks and 4 days

Baby’s size: The size of a lemon, about 3 inches from head to bottom.

Weight gained: 6 pounds as of last week’s appointment.

Stretch marks: None. I’ve been rubbing body butter on my belly. Hope it stays this way!

Symptoms: Increased appetite, frequent bathroom trips, constipation, some fatigue and lower abdominal pain.

Food cravings: Nothing in particular, just eating a lot of everything! Lots of guac and nachos on the trip!

Food aversions: Nothing really, but food at night doesn’t sound too good since I don’t sleep well if I have a big meal.

Movement: I think I felt something but not sure if it was the baby or my stomache growling.

Maternity clothes: Same old. A couple of pants and the rest of clothes are non maternity.

Belly button: Still in, but I think it wants to come out soon.

Wedding rings: On

Next Prenatal appointment: I had an appointment last week and everything looked great. Next appt is on Nov 5th.

I had a great running week last week, totalling 27 miles! The farthest I ran was 6 miles and I averaged about 5 miles a day. Some runs were better than others, but I’ll take it!

This week I’m also doing well in the running departmenr and here’s what I’ve been doing:

Monday- 5 miles in 46 min

Tuesday- 6.25 miles in 54 min

Wed: 3.75 slow miles and 13 min on the stationary bike, light arm weights

Here’s a pic from my trip to Cancun. I had a blast with my friends eventhough I didn’t go out and party with them. I relaxed on the beach and caught up with some much needed sleep! Great 5 days but I missed Maia and Rob lots!

Have a great week!

Week 11

Hey guys! I’m here with another weekly pregnancy update. I love writing these posts because they make me reflect on how my body is changing and how I’m doing in general. I hope you enjoy these posts too!

Here’s a picture I took today and I think I’m starting to see a little bump, what do you think?

20130925-212047.jpg

Week 11 details

How far along: 11 weeks and 4 days

Baby’s size: The size of a fig, over 1 and a 1/2 inches from head to bottom.

Weight gained: None since last week. I think my body is finally getting into the groove of things and my appetite has gone down a bit. I have an appointment on Tuesday so I’ll be sharing my “official” weight gain next week.

Stretch marks: None. I’ve been rubbing body butter on my belly once a day.

Symptoms: I’ve been feeling a little better since I’m nearing the end of the 1st trimester, but I’m still tired, bloated and feel a little nausea if I don’t eat regularly. Frequent bathroom trips are still going strong!

Food cravings: Ice cream and bread with olive oil and salt, can’t get enough!! I had real ice cream on Friday with my sister and it tasted SO good.

Food aversions: Nothing really, but food at night doesn’t sound too good right now. I’m mostly having eggs and toast or other breakfast-y items for dinner.

Movement: Not yet!

Maternity clothes: Same as last week. A couple of pants and the rest are all jon maternity. I’m ordering a couple new pants from gap maternity since mine are still too big.

Belly button: Still in, but I think it wants to come out soon. My belly button never went totally in after my first pregnancy.

Wedding rings: On

Next Prenatal appointment: Tuesday!

Last week I’ve felt like my energy is making a come back! I had a great running week last week, totalling 29 miles! The farthest I ran was 6.5 miles and I averaged about 5 miles a day. So happy!

This week I’m also doing pretty well on the fitness front and here’s what I’ve been doing:

Monday- 5 miles in 44 min and some light arm weights

Tuesday- 5 miles in 42 min

20130925-212213.jpg

20130925-212239.jpg

(I had to use the bathroom so the run was done in two parts.)

Wed: 2 slow miles and 20 min on the stationary bike, abs

There’s a race coming up on October 13 and I’m thinking of participating with Rob. There’s a 10k and 1/2 marathon, but I’ll be doing the 10k. I’ll be 14 weeks pregnant by then and don’t want to push myself into running 13.1 miles.

Well, there you have it, another pregnancy update! I can’t believe I have another week under my belt. Time really flies!

Hope you have a great week!

I can’t believe we’re in the double digits now. I’m officially 10.5 weeks along, so only 28.5 weeks left (I promise I’m not counting!) The first trimester is moving along pretty quickly and I hope it stays that way because I want my energy levels back ASAP!

How far along: 10 weeks and 4 days

Baby’s Size: A kumquat (over an inch long from head to bottom)

Weight Gained: 2 pounds since last weigh in, so 5 lbs total. I’m kind of freaking out, but try to not let it get to me. I’ve been eating terribly so I’m just going to try and mind what I put in my mouth from now on.

Stretch Marks: None.

Symptoms: Fatigue, frequent urination (so annoying during the night!), migraines, nausea and being bloated all the time.

Food Cravings: Still on a cereal kick. Everything else is pretty much hit or miss, might love it one day and not the next.

Food Aversions: Nothing in particular.

Movement: None yet.

Gender: No idea and we just decided (well, I just decided) that I don’t want to find out with this pregnancy. I think its fun not knowing and being surprised in the end.

Maternity Clothes: A couple of maternity jeans and some regular jeans. There are a couple that still fit so I wear them every once in a while. All tops are non-maternity for the time being.

Belly Button in or out: In

Wedding rings: On

Next prenatal appointment: October 1st- can’t wait!

This week I wanted to talk about running during pregnancy. Since I’m a runner, I always envisioned myself running throughout my whole pregnancy while “trying” to maintain my mileage and pace. During my first pregnancy I was able to run way into my third trimester, but much slower and less miles, but I wasn’t in tip top running shape like I was this time around. Although I’ve entered this pregnancy in great shape, I feel as if every mile is a struggle and I’m definitely not running at my normal pace. I’ve learned to come to peace with that in the past few weeks and honestly I’m just happy I’m able to run. Last week I ran 25 miles and I’m very proud of myself!

Hopefully I’ll be running my whole pregnancy, but if for some reason I can’t, I’ll sure be doing something else to stay active and running will be back on my agenda post partum.

I hope you have a great day and promise to post a belly pic later today or tomorrow since I haven’t been able to take one!

I’ll leave you with a cute picture of Maia:

20130919-110955.jpg

Hey guys! I’m back with another pregnancy update: Week 9. This week I want to discuss weight gain and exercise as part of this post since its something I’ve been struggling quite a bit in the past few weeks.

Week 9 details

20130911-161115.jpg
Here’s me at 9 weeks (it was taken on Saturday), and as you can see I’m already sporting some maternity jeans.

How far along: 9 weeks and 4 days

Baby’s Size: A grape (almost 1 inch long from head to bottom)

Weight Gained: No idea since I haven’t weighed myself and I’m pretty content with that. I’m planning on only weighing in at doctor’s appointments, but if I do weigh myself at home I’ll let you know where I’m at.

Stretch Marks: None.

Symptoms: Pretty much the same as last week. Bloated all the time, constipation, tired and frequent bathroom trips (about 2-3 times at night). Thankfully, I haven’t had much nausea this week except for a bit on Monday morning.

Food Cravings: Coffee frappuccinos from Juan Valdez (the Colombian Starbucks), Cereal (I’ve been having cereal everyday for breakfast and as a bedtime snack), milkshakes and fruit.

Food Aversions: Hot drinks and Starbucks (still haven’t been there and mind you I have one across the street!)

Movement: None yet.

Gender: No idea.

Maternity Clothes: This week I decided to pull out some of my old maternity jeans since my regular ones are feeling a little tight around my midsection. My maternity pants are all from Gap and I love them! They’re still a little loose on me, but I prefer being comfortable.

Belly Button in or out: In

Wedding rings: On

Next prenatal appointment: October 1st – a little less than 3 weeks away

Two very important things that have been on my mind lately regarding pregnancy have been weight gain and exercise. As I mentioned in my previous update, as of last week I had already gained 3 pounds and I was only 8.5 weeks along. This was pretty hard on me since I didn’t put any weight on until the 3rd month with Maia. At the same time, the doctor told me I should try and watch my food intake since this weight gain was probably due to overeating and not pregnancy related since the baby is still so tiny. I haven’t been really watching what I eat, but I’ve promised to start being more mindful in order to feel better about myself. (Note: I’m just going to try to cut back on indulgences, and not restrict my calories by any means. My baby’s health is of utmost importance.)

As far as exercise goes, I’ve been a little frustrated with this since I haven’t really felt like myself the past couple of weeks (I know- I’m pregnant!). I’ve still been able to get a couple of workouts in, but I haven’t been running as much as I would’ve liked. Before finding out I was pregnant, I was in great running shape and training for my 5th marathon- the San Francisco marathon in October, but now I won’t be running in it anymore. I’ve run two raced since I found out I was pregnant, a half marathon a week and a half ago at 8 weeks pregnant and did pretty well- 1h 46 min, and a small 7k race which I placed 2nd, but both raced felt so much harder than they normally would. It’s not going to be easy, but I know I have to change my mentality and start training for two instead of trying to improve my fitness level. I just hope I can continue running (at least a little) throughout my whole pregnancy.

A pic of Rob, Maia and I at the race on Saturday.

20130911-161510.jpg

Sorry about the rant, but these have been two issues I’ve been dealing with and just wanted to get them off my chest.

I hope you have a great day!

We’re…

Having a baby!!

20130904-162045.jpg

Baby #2 is due April 2014! Rob and I couldn’t be more excited! J We’re so happy to be adding a new member to our family and giving Maia a little brother/sister.

I’ve been slacking in the blog department lately because honestly, I haven’t been to motivated to write and I’ve been SO tired all the time. I’ve been following several blogs that have posted their pregnancy journeys weekly and I’m going to borrow that idea in order to share our journey with all of you!

Today marks 8.5 weeks into my pregnancy so I’ll be doing my Week 8 post. I’ll be posting every Wednesday.

Week 8 details

How far along: 8 weeks and 4 days

Baby’s Size: A kidney bean (a little over ½ inch long)

Weight Gained: About 3 pounds. I wasn’t expecting to gain weight so fast since I started gaining weight in the 3rd month with my first pregnancy and it’s been a little hard, but I’ll discuss this further in a later post.

Stretch Marks: None

Symptoms: Morning sickness that comes and goes, being bloated all the time, constipation (TMI?), breakouts in my forehead and occasional pain in my lower abdomen.

Food Cravings: Fro-yo, Mexican food, Milkshakes, lots of fruit

Food Aversions: Starbucks- who would have guessed? I’ve only been there once in the past week and still can’t believe it.

Movement: None yet.

Gender: No idea.

Belly Button in or out: In

Wedding rings: On

Next prenatal appointment: October 1st

20130904-162133.jpg

That’s all people! I hope you have a great day and see you soon with a recap post on the half-marathon I ran on Sunday!

Remember how I said I was going to try and eat more at-home meals after my trip? Well, that hasn’t really happened. Last week, the Husband and I went to dinner on Wednesday night with some friends and Thursday night with one of his coworkers and his wife. It was pretty taxing since we went to bed past 12 on both nights, had some drinks and still had to get up early the next morning. Thankfully, our weekend was pretty low-key (I went to bed BOTH nights before 10 pm) and just relaxed. We even got ourselves a massage on Saturday afternoon, which was glorious!

Well, even though I didn’t want to eat out as much last week, we had a great time and enjoyed amazing food. We went to a new-to-us restaurant on Wednesday and everything was delicious. We each ordered an appetizer, entrée and dessert (talk about lots of food), but thankfully portions were decent and we didn’t end up too full.

For starters I had the grilled octopus and for my entrée I went with the mahi mahi. Both were delicious, but I have to say that the octopus stole the show. We ordered 6 desserts and shared them with the table (it was 6 of us) and all of them were delicious. My favorite was the chocolate tart with raspberries and some chocolate dessert with lucuma (a Peruvian fruit that is considered a superfood).

As for Running, last week was yet again another great running week for me. I followed my plan almost exactly and felt great on all of my runs except for one. Here’s what my week looked like:

Monday: 8x 800m at 10k pace
Tuesday: 5 easy miles
Wednesday: Tempo run (about 6.5 miles)
Thursday: OFF
Friday: Long run 12.5 miles
Saturday: 5 miles

This week my running will not be as great since I’m travelling to Cuzco on Thursday morning until Sunday so I’ll try to get in my long run tomorrow. This week will work as my “scale-back” week and I’ll just pick up from where I left off on Monday- no big deal! I’m actually going to enjoy my time off with my friend and Husband in Cuzco.

I almost forgot- I’m running a half marathon on September 1st. I’m excited since I love to race, but it’s the day after my cousin’s wedding so I’ll have to go to bed early!

And just because she’s too cute, here’s a picture of Maia from the weekend with her scooter.

20130813-124154.jpg

Hope you have a great day!
